Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) Management Consulting Programme

Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) Management Consulting Programme
A safe working environment cannot be built solely with protective equipment or technical instructions. Approximately 80 to 90 per cent of workplace accidents are caused by “unsafe behaviours”. The primary objective of our Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) Management programme is to foster a safety awareness among employees, transform hazardous habits into safe behaviours, and prevent accidents before they occur.
At Ege Consulting, we aim to enhance the maturity level of your OHS culture by following the roadmap below together.
Analysis of the Current Situation and Strategic Alignment
The first step of the programme is to take a snapshot of your organisation’s current safety culture. In this phase, where we seek to answer the question “Where are we?”, we:
- Organisational Identification: We hold an opening meeting to identify the teams and responsibilities involved in the project.
- In-depth Analysis: We conduct a current situation analysis through field observations, review of existing OHS documentation, and interviews with employees at different levels.
- Senior Management Agreement: We present the analysis results to senior management in a comprehensive report and achieve full consensus on the roadmap that best suits the realities of the business. This stage is the cornerstone for ownership of the programme.
Systemic Infrastructure, Planning and Competency Building
A robust infrastructure is essential for effective implementation. In this phase, we transform the programme from a plan on paper into a living system:
- OH&S Integration: We prepare the Behaviour-Based Safety procedure and integrate it in a way that does not conflict with your existing OH&S management system, but rather strengthens it.
- Critical Behaviour Identification: Every business has a different risk profile. We clearly define examples of unsafe behaviour in critical activities specific to your site (e.g. working at height, energy isolation, etc.).
- Observation and Recording Infrastructure: We create customised observation forms to collect site data and clarify instructions on how this data should be recorded.
- Comprehensive Communication and Training: Change begins with training. We organise specialised training sessions for all groups, from top management to the lowest level. We support the programme with posters and visual communication tools to boost employee motivation.
Implementation, Field Observations, and Development Cycle
This is the stage where the planned system comes to life in the field. Our focus here is not on finding errors, but on encouraging safe behaviour:
- Operational Integration: We make the programme part of the daily workflow.
- Active Observation and Recording: The observers we train go into the field to make real-time observations and record them systematically.
- Feedback Mechanism: Feedback is at the heart of this phase. Constructive dialogue established immediately with the employee ensures that incorrect behaviour is identified and corrected.
- Data Analysis and Progress Report: The collected data is analysed to determine which areas have improved and which areas are still at risk. We track progress concretely with new reports prepared using this data.
Sustainability: Performance Tracking and Monitoring
DOGY is not a destination but a continuous journey. To keep the system alive and make it part of the corporate culture:
- Performance Criteria (KPI): We clearly define the critical success indicators to be tracked and how this process will be managed.
- Continuous Monitoring: We maintain uninterrupted monitoring activities and document all outputs.
- Periodic Evaluation: We hold regular meetings to discuss the system’s shortcomings or successes.
- Management Reporting: Periodic reports presented to senior management ensure that the return on investment and positive changes in safety culture are regularly monitored.
